By Lauren Nicholas
Wings beat in unison
Blowing baby’s breath
As leaves fall and the sunlight fades
Little soldiers marching away
Their war cries echo in the dark
As dew freezes and a wintry hand
Plucks leaves from branches
That flutter like the wings of Monarchs
The frenzied fowl are a display
Of a pumping, swelling organ
That’s rebirthed from departing
From this world littered with decay
