The Quietude Beyond

By E. Kraft

in the quietude between words where shadows stretch and soften,
lies a whisper, an echo beneath the city’s shallow breath

its pulse a muted thrum beneath the din, letting voices rise and fall like waves,
yet even in their crest and trough, silence still speaks in thunderous tones

streetlights flicker in fractured strokes as stoic faces strain on,
each a canvas of untold stories, glazed eyes weighed down by unspoken truths

in the heart of the storm where chaos and calm intertwine, the silence mirrors
the dissonance of a world caught in the web of its own making

yet a solitary note persists amidst the clamor,
an unvoiced lament for the echoes that never reach their end

the silence isn’t empty; it’s a symphony of what remains unheard,
a testament to the quiet wars fought in the recesses of our minds

we find our humanity in this fragile hush, our frailty laid bare
in the spaces where words fall short in delicate pauses

silence is not merely an absence but the presence of something deeper:
a conversation that never truly ends
