I’ve never seen a palm tree in your house

By ryan bry

I feel just like a phone number written in public when I look at you
and it makes me think that a bag of cheetos is enough sustenance
for 72 years or so, spiritually speaking
when I am with you every planet is an answer
to a question that is impossible not to ask
and people are still stepping in my pile of thoughts
kicking the trash with their ankles a little
but I don’t care
because this nonchalance is how you’ll remember me
in other lifetimes with yet more impossible languages
as the blue rhythm of your eyes opens and closes
again and again with me / without me
