Disco Dennis

By J.D. Lancaster

Disco Dennis
always made light
of others laughter.

Danced at the discos;
was known for it thereafter.
Grabbed a Gazette seller job;
a lasting chapter.

Worked around the clock
through spit, sleet, snow or spatter.
Sold news to old regulars
who bought his banter.

A peculiar heart
behind a jam-jar glimmer,
beats within a brutal world—
kindness does matter.

Disco Dennis
always made light
of others laughter.
