They eat a broken sundial.
I am not awake yet.
The strongest dream
swells in my head.
The grains of shadow strewn
across the ex-lawn weed-land
are sun-particles. I name
one sparrow, and the name become
all sparrows from the past
and from tomorrow.
Why? I shake my head. Sparrow is
as good a name as any other.
The same goes to us who name everything
to put a leash around a memory.
