Thirteenth of June

By Daphne Harries

(The sky has been blue
for several hours)

Looking to you
in my fondness

seeking a heatwave
complaint

cracking the window
to let in warm air

you guzzle
like the canned cocktails

the clouds have evaporated
on our tongues

Alongside mojitos
and the sense of permanence
life once gave us

but sunburn brings solace
or ice cubes in tumblers

ready for the next round of drinks
before the sunsets properly
