I lay in bed with you and watch your chest rise and fall.
One hand lays on top of your chest, while the other on top of my head, plays with my hair.
I’m fixated on the wrinkles on your hand.
The lines are roadmaps to this journey called life you’ve been on.
They held me the day I was born.
They taught me how to tie my shoes.
They pulled me in and squeezed me tight.
They have wiped away the tears that have fell on my face.
They high-fived and clapped for my successes.
They taught me how to be a kind human being, and loved me down to the bone.
I lay here tracing the journey you have been on and think to myself “how lucky am I that these
hands are in my life”
