My Dad Pulls Over to Stretch

By Savannah Jones

This dirt road stretches for miles
With no scenery but the
Earth, the children of our Mother
Nature our only companions.
I take it for granted each time I pass,
roll my eyes at its barrenness
Itch to move on to the fields of flowers
And flashy signs that line the highway

But now I will pause to revel in its
shrouded beauty too long unnoticed.

I will plant my knees in the dirt, run my
Hands over the grooves left by hundreds of tires

I will notice its beauty now
Without wishing it looked different.
