This bread is made for me

By Treziel Mae Mayores

I never liked bread
–or so I thought; I’ve never really cared.
But once, my brother came home,
from his bag he pulled something out.
The transparent packet showing
four big yellow circular delight.
A bread called “pinagong” from the south.
Resembling a turtle, thus the name,
but this skeptic was not thrilled,
although the bread was alluring.
I took a bite, and after that I couldn't stop.
The crumbs that fell on my sheets
felt like a waste,
I wished I could vacuum it out with my face.
I never liked bread,
but this one took my breath away
it’s sweet and in your tongue it melts.
My mother said it’s due to the eggs,
I said “no mom, it’s because I don’t like bread.”
